Why do I get up between 1-3 in the early morning?

POV: you’re waking up between 1-3 in the morning AGAIN. Why do I wake up between 1-3 in the morning?   Watch this week’s YouTube video   I hear this question all the time from my clients, and it’s something I struggled with myself – Why do I wake up between 1-3 in the morning every night?      When we enter our late 30s to mid-’40s, a lot of things change with our bodies (am I right?), especially as far as our hormones and ability to deal with stress.    A lot of times, you’re waking up in the middle of the night because of ~ low blood sugar ~    See, your brain needs glucose to work. When you have low blood sugar, your brain signals your adrenal glands to produce cortisol >>aka the STRESS hormone<<   Cortisol raises glucose levels which is great, but it’s also why you have anxiety and energy almost to the point where you can get up and start your day at like three in the morning.     NOT great.    To help a girl out, here are a few of my favorite bedtime ...

Should you take collagen?

Image
I opened up my Instagram account for some questions yesterday and got some great ones about collagen, so I waned to share them with you. One of the big ones was… should you take collagen?  Should you take collagen? Collagen is an awesome way to increase your protein intake (it’s so convenient), but there also seems to be a lot of confusion about it. It is definitely one of those wellness buzzwords that’s making the rounds! But, contrary to the many “magical” supplements on the market that claim to change your life, collagen is one of my tried-and-true staples that I’ve used for years as a way to increase my protein intake and help support healthy skin, hair, nails, and other tissues in my body. What exactly is collagen? Collagen is basically the “glue” that holds our body together. It’s a key protein (30% of the proteins in our body are collagen-based) that ensures the flexibility and elasticity of our connective tissue, including skin, bones, and ligaments. As we age, we natural...

7 Winter Workout Tips for Cold Weather Exercise

Image
In winter, your daily brisk walk can quickly turn from “feel the burn” to “feel the brrrrr ” as temperatures plummet. But don’t let a little cold stop you from doing winter workouts! Cold weather exercises may actually help you lose weight faster. According to AccuWeather, “Regardless of exercise, studies have shown that being outside in cold weather can transform white fat, specifically belly and thigh fat, into calorie-burning beige or brown fat.” They explain that brown fat burns calories to generate heat and keep you warm. So try to get outside this winter, even just for some fresh air and a brisk walk! The hardest part of winter workouts is the first few minutes you spend out in the cold. It’s like jumping into an unheated pool in early summer, before the sun has done its magic. You’re cold for a little while but as you move around, you literally get warmed up. Of course, there are ways to exercise smartly and safely that will make your winter workouts pure enjoyment. Here are...
